Photography Education | 4 Reasons to Grow Your Photography Business This Summer | Sabrina Gebhardt

Thoughts of summer often lead to vacation, trips to the pool and adventures with your kids. But maybe you should consider the potential to grow your photography business this summer? If you feel like this post just took a turn to left field, hear me out…

If you are a family photographer, then you know how insanely busy the fall is. In fact, it is probably your busiest season of the year. And that is a perfect reason why spending some time this summer fine tuning your craft and your business is a great idea. Spend part of your summer working on your business so that you can have the most successful fall season you have ever had.

Plus, if you are anything like me, while summer IS fun and adventure and a slower pace… it can sometimes feel like I am literally giving my all to my family. And that is a challenge.

I LOVE my business and really do love working on it. Committing to a course or workshop or mentoring experience would not only be a fun change of pace, it would give you something that is just for YOU and maybe there would be a reason to travel alone built in. Now THAT is winning.

Here are 4 reasons why the summer is a great time to focus on photography education.

1. Prime your business for a successful fall busy season

It may be summer now but fall is right around the corner. If you don’t prepare yourself, then you are wasting the opportunity to have a super successful fall. Honestly that would be like committing to run a marathon and then not training for it at all. You would NEVER do that. So, why roll into fall busy season without having your business in the best shape first?

2. Invest in yourself and take a break from your kiddos

I briefly mentioned this one already but let’s take a deeper dive, shall we? Yes, summer is fun but it can also be a drain. Keeping our kids entertained every day. Shuttling them to and from camps, playdates and sports. Continually playing “fun mom” and saying yes to the pool and water balloons and the rest of your summer bucket list. It is a lot. And you really do deserve a break.

In a perfect world, you would get a week at a 4 star resort and spa but maybe that isn’t an option. In that case, maybe you can give yourself the gift of something that is just for you. Something that has you excited and will recharge your batteries. That could totally be a course, workshop or mentoring experience. Something that will fill your soul and get you excited about the fall busy season ahead.

3. Get re-inspired right before fall starts

If you have been a photographer for a while, you may remember that sometimes rolling into fall busy season is a time with very little creative inspiration. Yes, we see a LOT of clients with all the mini sessions BUT because we are over producing, our creativity gets zapped.

And if you spent the summer completely in mom-mode, maybe you are entering busy season with your creativity already zapped. Education is a great way to combat that. If you have never done an in-person workshop or mentoring experience where you watch another photographer at work, I promise that you are missing out on an incredible and inspiring experience. This is something that I still do (yes, even 11 years into this business) and I am always amazed at how inspired I am afterwards.

4. Invest in your business to make MORE money this fall

Investing in your business can feel scary, especially if you have never done it before. But I can promise you this, when you invest in education and then commit to the process, you will 100% get your money back and then some.

When you look at every photography industry leader, you will find people who have invested in tons of education over the years. And most of them, continue to do so. Why? Because it works. When you invest in learning something new, watching someone work, learning from others, that money always, ALWAYS comes back to you. And most of the time, it comes back many times over. So what if you could invest in education this summer that would set you up for even greater financial success this fall? Sounds ideal right?
