Welcome back to the shoot it straight podcast, Happy New Year friends. Here we are at the start of 2023. And over the next few episodes, I will talk you through some of the things that are most commonly at the top of mind in a New Year. Things like excitement and fear how to maximize a season of quiet, purposeful planning, New Year energy vision and goals. And honestly, I’m really, really excited about those episodes, because I’m one of those folks that just loves the start of a new year. I love a clean slate, I love a fresh start. I love the dreaming and the vision and all of that stuff. So just buckle up, the next few episodes are going to be really, really great. But today, before we dive into any of that, I want you to ask yourself, what do you want this year? Really think about this? What do you want this year?

In 2023? I want more blank. I want more time. I want more boundaries, I want more connection. I want to be inspired. I want more money, I want to work less. There’s no right or wrong answer here. Just write down what is on your heart, not what you think you should write down. But what is coming up for you. Don’t allow yourself to go down the rabbit hole of goal setting just yet just I want you to pause and mull over this idea. What do I want. And honestly, I think it’s a really great idea to sit with this idea for a day or two and see what happens. I mentioned in the last episode, the quote, what you focus on expands and that is true. So let yourself focus on what you want for a day or two and just see how it expands. Maybe the idea will shift, maybe an opportunity will arise. Maybe you will become aware of how badly you want this thing. Or maybe you will realize that you don’t actually want that thing at all.

And what you really want is this other thing, whatever comes up for you is right, whatever comes up for you is true. Just answer the question, what do I want, and then sit with it and see what happens. Be open to what happens later this week. After you’ve been sitting with your desire for a few days. Now it’s time to ask yourself, Okay, what’s the plan? This is the part two. This is the how it’s important to take the step because just wanting something is like making a wish. But making something happen is doing the work. You can’t do the work without a plan. So again, I don’t want you to start diving into actual goals. Don’t worry about the step by step process. We’ll get there for now. Just mull over. Okay, this year I want x. So how can I make that happen, and just sit with it for a few days. Initially, your first thoughts might be that you need to hire help or raise your prices or join a mastermind or buy new gear.

But let that howl sit with you for a couple days, and just see what comes up. When you take what you want a step farther and focus on the how I think you may be surprised what kind of ideas and opportunities start to present themselves. Maybe you will come across a new YouTube account with the exact solution to your problem. Or maybe you will get invited to participate in a group program to accomplish exactly what you want. Or maybe you will see a friend share a book on Instagram that is the exact topic that you want more of. Or maybe you’ll meet a new friend or finally get into that therapist that has that crazy long impossible waitlist or whatever else. Okay, you will be surprised at what starts to present itself to you. So what I’m telling you is very simply this focus on your want. And then on your how for the next week, and then just see how the universe starts to support you. Keep your eyes open, and be willing to follow your gut instincts. Okay, so while you’re at it, go ahead hadn’t put on a sticky note on your desk or somewhere that you’ll see every day. Okay? If you’re not working right now, maybe that’s your bathroom mirror or the refrigerator or your car console or whatever.

This year I want blank. And let yourself look at it often. Let it be the focus for a week. Okay, next week, and in the following episodes, we’re going to take this even further. So don’t think I’m going to leave you hanging and you’re like, Okay, that’s great. I’ve put these things out into the universe. I’ve mulled over them what’s next? I’ve got you that’s coming in the next few episodes. Okay. But before we go today, I did want to leave you with two freebies in case one of them supports something that you’re wanting or looking for in 2023. If you are wanting to start your photography business, I do have a free nine step business blueprint that can help you do that. That link will be in the show notes. And if something you’re wanting is more sustainability in your business to feel like you have control and like you can manage it, I have a free creatives guide to business sustainability.
