Have you ever felt like everyone you see on your Instagram feed is succeeding in business, but you’re stuck in feelings of overwhelm, burnout, and exhaustion?
You’re not alone, friend: so many of my 1:1 coaching clients have shared similar struggles.
The difference between them and you?
They’re taking action…and you can, too.
Here are nine signs that you need to invest in your photography business…and stay tuned until the end, because I’m sharing a solution to help you take action, right now.
- You don’t know what you want your photography business to look like.
Many photographers that I work with and support, whether in 1:1 coaching containers or my group coaching programs, haven’t asked themselves this pivotal question: “What do I want in my business, and what are my big dreams?”
If you aren’t feeling confident in what types of clients or sessions you want to shoot, what your editing style is, or even what services you want to offer, that’s a tell-tale sign that you need to do some soul-searching to gain some much-needed clarity.
- You don’t set business goals, or you aren’t sure what your goals for your business should even be.
One of my favorite things to do with my coaching clients is to set intentional goals that support the way they want to run their businesses. If you haven’t set goals in a while (or ever), or if you don’t know what your goals should be to build a photography business that fits your life, not the other way around, this is a sure sign that you need more exploration (and support!).
- You struggle to set or maintain boundaries in your business and in your life.
Setting boundaries with clients, with family or friends, or with your calendar can be difficult as a business owner, but it’s important to building a sustainable business! If you struggle in these areas, consider those challenges as an invitation to find the support you need to set your business up for success.
- You’re shooting too often and are battling burnout, and every day feels like going to war with your calendar.
If you’re feeling like you’re tied to your camera or your computer, and you’re in a losing battle with your calendar, these are signs that you’re overbooking and overextending yourself professionally, and maybe even personally, too. What could an ideal work schedule look like for you, and how can you better balance your work with your commitments at home? It’s time to consider how you can craft a schedule that supports your life and your business.
- You’re setting your prices based on what your competitors are charging, yet you’re wondering why you aren’t making enough money.
Here’s the truth: your competitors are likely under-charging, so you are, too. When your prices aren’t set to support your life and your business, you have to photograph more sessions in order to make money. This leaves you feeling consistently on the cusp of burnout. What if you could set prices that are in alignment with your dreams and that support your goals?
- Imposter syndrome creeps up whenever you see other photographers sharing content on social media, and you feel clueless about what to share on your blog.
Creating content for social media or a blog can feel overwhelming on its own, but when you add in the time it takes to truly cultivate a community online, it can be difficult to know where to even begin. If you feel like you’re wasting time creating content or you aren’t sure what topics would resonate with your ideal client, it doesn’t have to be this way.
- Building an email list is something everyone says you should do, but the idea of creating even more content is a non-starter for you.
When it comes to building an email list, consistency is key. But consistency takes time, and if time (or content ideas) is running low for you, it can be easy to push this to-do further and further down your list. What if it was possible to use your email list to move forward in business, all while fostering relationships and serving your ideal client?
- You know that systems are a crucial part of running a sustainable photography business, but from choosing a CRM to emailing your clients, you aren’t sure which systems are right for you.
There’s so many choices out there when it comes to CRMs, email marketing platforms, task management software and more. Instead of allowing the never-ending choices to overwhelm you and prevent you from taking action, it’s time to get streamlined and organized. Many of my coaching clients need help putting systems in place, and I can support you, too.
- You want to outsource tasks in your business, but you’re fearful of giving up control.
When you outsource tasks that you don’t need to be doing in your business, you free up time for the things that only you can do. It’s time to stop doing everything on your own and get the support you need, and deserve. What if you could take the pressure off your shoulders and focus on what you do best?
