What if my kids are crazy? | Fort Worth Family Photographer

One of the most common concerns I hear from parents before booking a family session is,

“What if my kids are completely crazy during the session?”

Here is what I want you to know: I can handle it.

I have been photographing young families for 10 years now. Some of them have had one child, others have had five children. And guess what? At least one of the kids is always crazy.

And I love it so much.

Yep, you heard me say it. I love a little crazy mixed into a family session. Truly, I do. When everyone behaves too perfectly, I get bored. There is no flavor in perfectly behaved kids. And quite frankly, it isn’t real life.

I want to capture your family and all the different personalities represented. That means that there will be some shy and snuggly types. And others will be wild and crazy. And I love them both equally.

If reading these words is making you a bit uncomfortable, because you don’t like things to be crazy, chaotic, or messy, then I might not be the photographer for you. And that is totally okay. Some people really do want the perfectly posed family portrait. And there is nothing wrong with that. But that is just me.

I much prefer sessions with wrangling kids, loud laughter, jumping on the bed, potty talk, and goofball kids any day. I want to see childhood. I want to be able to look back at the images from your session and hear the giggles. I want to look back and remember the hilarious “jokes” your kid told me. I want to remember the song that was playing for your family dance party.

So, to be quite honest, if you are wondering whether or not your kids will behave for a session with me, just trust me. I don’t want perfection. I want reality. And I can, and will, make magic from your reality.

As a Mom of three myself, I know how hard it is to parent. Wrangling your kids all day is what drives us to the evening glass of wine. I get it.

But I also know that kids are always harder on the parents than anyone else. Just relax and trust me. I will come in and get to know them. I will be silly with them. I will engage with them. I will actually try and get them to be silly.

And then I watch the magic unfold.

At the end of the session, you will probably think to yourself, “There is no way she got anything out of that”… And that is when I get to swoop in and surprise the heck out of you. Because from my vantage point, on the outside looking in, your beautiful chaos is perfect just the way it is.
