Welcome to the shoot it straight podcast. I’m your host, Sabrina Gephardt. Here I will share an honest take on what it’s like to be a female creative entrepreneur. while balancing business, motherhood and life. myself along with my guests will get vulnerable through honest conversations and relatable stories because we’re willing to go there. If you’re trying to find balance in this exciting place you’re in yet willing to talk about the hard stuff to to shoot it straight podcast is here to share practical and tangible takeaways to help you shoot it straight. Welcome back to another episode of the shoot it straight podcast? Do you have something on your heart? Something that you have really been wanting to build or create or lean into? The answer is probably yes, because most of us, especially entrepreneurs have new things that we want to try or ways we want to grow.

A common struggle I hear from my coaching students is that they are struggling to move the needle or gain any traction on a goal or project. When this comes up, the first thing I ask is whether or not they have carved out the dedicated time to actually do the work. The question is not whether or not your passions are exciting enough. The question is, are you willing to pull back from something else and allow the space to create this new thing. We all have super full lives were mother’s friends, partners, community members, and business owners. If your calendar is anything like mine, it is super full at all times. If I’m not busy with my kids, or my family or traveling, I’m definitely working on client work, coaching students or taking care of the house, I know your calendar probably looks a lot like mine. But if you’re trying to build something, or grow something, or lean into something, or hit a particular goal, you cannot simply think that you will fit it all into your already full life, that will literally never happen. Because your life is already bursting at the seams, you have to be willing to make the space to do the work. That probably means pulling back from something that you’re currently doing. Or maybe you realize that a lot of your time is spent piddling around on social media or having your hands in those minor tasks that don’t really matter. If that’s the case, simply blocking off time in your calendar to do this work might be enough for you. But here’s the really important part. And what I want you to really take away from today’s episode, when you have something big that you’re striving for or building, you don’t just technically need the actual time to do the work. You also need the brain space to hash out your ideas fully.

You need space to lean into your true inspiration, you want to make sure that you really want this thing that you don’t just want to build it because someone else is doing it and it looks cool. You want to build it because you’ve received the intuition, the divine inspiration, and it is truly from you and for you. True creativity comes in the quiet space. And if you aren’t allowing yourself quiet on a regular basis, you’re missing the opportunity to hear this intuition, to feel what your body is telling you. And to be confident in your choices. When you aren’t allowing yourself quiet on a regular basis, you can easily find yourself swallowed by the noise, the consumption overwhelm that comes from living in the age of the internet. Just to be really clear here. Yes, I am telling you that you need time and space blocked off on your calendar to actually do the work. But I’m also telling you that it is absolutely necessary to have blank space and time on your calendar.

Now, before you start the work, the space allows you room to breathe, to relax, to think more clearly and to gain clarity about your life and your business. Having the clarity and certainty about what you want is a big piece of intentional and successful growth. And what happens is when you find yourself with this clarity and this certainty about where you’re going and what you’re doing the finding time and space on your calendar to actually do the thing that becomes easier. Because everything else gets measured against what you want. Do I want to volunteer for this thing? Or do I want those two hours to work on my new website? Do I want to say yes to that extra client job? Or do I want those hours to work on my book? Do I want to continue to do all of my own editing? Or do I want those hours to take a course. Do I want to waste two hours scrolling social media every unite or do I want those hours in the morning to get to the gym, when you give yourself time and space to think when you turn down the noise, when you have clarity about what you want, when you have the certainty that it is what you want and it’s not from someone else, then you can easily start to find time and carve out the space to commit to that work. Because if you don’t commit the time on your actual calendar, literally blocked off to do this thing, it’s not going to happen period. So maybe this episode resonated with you. Maybe you found your heart daydreaming of this new thing, and yet you never seem to find the time to work on it. Or maybe you listen to this episode and you realize that this thing you were chasing was never yours to begin with. Either way, if this episode landed with you, I would love to hear about it.
